Advanced Feature

Master Spelling with Review Mode

Learn how the Review feature helps you understand each word letter-by-letter with automatic spelling assistance

What Makes Review Mode Different?

Unlike Practice Mode where you just hear words, Review Mode teaches you how to spell each word by:

  1. 1. Speaking the complete word first
  2. 2. Spelling it out letter-by-letter ("C... A... T")
  3. 3. Speaking the complete word again

💡 Perfect for: Learning new words, understanding spelling patterns, and reinforcing difficult words in memory.

1

Select Your Word Group

Click the "Select Group" dropdown to choose which word list you want to review.

The dropdown shows how many words are in each group, like "Science Words (12 words)".

2

Click Any Word for Instant Review

All words appear as clickable cards below. When you click a word, the app automatically:

🔊 Says the word: "Elephant"
⏸️ Brief pause (0.8 seconds)
🔤 Spells it out: "E... L... E... P... H... A... N... T"
⏸️ Another brief pause
🔊 Says the word again: "Elephant"

Great for: Focusing on specific difficult words that you want to hear spelled out multiple times.

Customize Voice and Speed

Voice Selection

Choose from UK, US, or Australian English voices. Options include Olivia (UK Female), Smith (UK Male), and Sophia (US Female).

Speech Speed Control

Use the Speech Speed slider (marked with a turtle icon 🐢) to adjust how fast letters are spoken:

  • Very Slow (0.3x–0.4x) - Best for completely new words
  • Slow (0.5x–0.6x) - Good for learning letter patterns
  • Normal (0.7x–0.9x) - Natural spelling pace
  • Fast (1.0x–1.2x) - Quick review
  • Very Fast (1.3x–1.5x) - Challenge yourself

Volume Control

Adjust the volume slider from 0% to 100%. The speaker icon changes to show current volume level.

Auto-Review Mode: Hands-Free Learning

Turn on Auto-Review Mode to have the app automatically cycle through all words, spelling each one letter-by-letter.

How Auto-Review Works:

  1. 1. 🔔 Plays beep sounds (optional, you choose 0-5 beeps)
  2. 2. 🔊 Says the complete word ("Beautiful")
  3. 3. ⏸️ Pauses briefly
  4. 4. 🔤 Spells it letter-by-letter with pauses: "B... E... A... U... T... I... F... U... L"
  5. 5. ⏸️ Pauses again
  6. 6. 🔊 Says the word one final time ("Beautiful")
  7. 7. ⏰ Waits (based on your settings) before moving to the next word
  8. 8. 🔁 Repeats for all words, then loops back to the beginning

Customize Your Auto-Review:

🔔

Number of Beeps Before Word

Set 0–5 beeps. Beeps alert you that a new word is starting so you can pay attention.

Default: 1 beep

🔤

Delay Between Letters

How long to pause between each letter when spelling (0.5–3 seconds). Slower = easier to follow.

Default: 1 second

⏱️

Delay Between Words

How long to wait after finishing one word before starting the next (1–10 seconds). Gives you time to write or think.

Default: 3 seconds

💡 Perfect for: Active learning sessions where you write down each word as it's spelled, or listening while doing other activities to reinforce spelling patterns.

4

Navigate Through Words

When Auto-Review is on, you see playback controls at the bottom:

⏮️

Previous

Jump to the previous word

🔄

Restart

Go back to the first word

⏭️

Next

The currently playing word is highlighted with a bright purple/pink background and shows its position (e.g., "7 / 15").

📖 Use Review Mode When:

  • You don't know how to spell a word yet
  • Understanding spelling patterns (silent letters, double consonants, etc.)
  • Teaching spelling to young children
  • Reinforcing difficult words that were spelled wrong before

🎯 Use Practice Mode When:

  • You already know how words are spelled
  • Testing yourself before an exam
  • Quick review of familiar words
  • Simulating a real spelling test
  • Speed practice sessions

Best Practices for Review Mode

✅ For Beginners

  • • Start with "Very Slow" speech speed
  • • Use 1.5–2 second delay between letters
  • • Click individual words multiple times to hear them spelled repeatedly

  • • Turn on Auto-Review and write words as they're spelled
  • • Practice full groups of 15–20 words

✅ For Advanced Practice

  • • Increase to "Fast" speed (1.0x–1.2x)
  • • Reduce letter delay to 0.5 seconds
  • • Challenge yourself: try to write before the spelling is finished
  • • Mix Review Mode with Practice Mode in the same session

  5. 5. Configure: 1 beep, 1.5 seconds between letters, 5 seconds between words
  6. 6. Get paper and pencil ready
  7. 7. Listen to each word spelled, write it down as you hear the letters
  8. 8. After the session, check your spellings against the app
  9. 9. Click any words you got wrong to hear them spelled again individually

Pro Tips for Maximum Learning

  • Visual + Audio: Look at the word on screen while it's being spelled to connect sight and sound
  • Write along: Writing words as they're spelled reinforces muscle memory
  • Repeat problem words: Click difficult words 3-5 times to hear different parts emphasized
  • Change voices: Hearing words in different accents helps with recognition
  • Gradual speed increase: Start slow, then speed up as you master words
