How to Add and Use Groups
Groups let you keep different sets of words separate, such as by week, subject, or child.
What is a word group?
A group is a named list of words, like “Week 1”, “Animals”, or “Test Friday”. Each group holds its own words so they do not mix with other lists.
This makes it easy to switch between school weeks, topics, or different children’s spelling lists without confusion.
How to add a new group
In the app, open the Add Group tab. You will see a box where you can type a name for your group, such as “Week 3 Spelling”.
Type your group name and click the button to create it. The new group will appear:
- In the Manage Groups screen.
- In the Select Group dropdown where you add words.
Using the “Manage Groups” page
On the Manage Groups page, you see a card for each group. Each card shows the name and how many words are inside it.
Below the card, you can see up to 10 example words from that group, plus a “+X more” message if there are extra words.
Import a group from a file
At the top right of the Manage Groups page, there is a green Import Group button.
- Click Import Group.
- Choose a text file from your computer that has one word per line.
- The app reads the file, ignores any empty lines, and collects all the words.
The new group name is taken from the file name: for example, a file called [translate:Week-1.txt] becomes a group called [translate:Week 1].
Export (download) a group
On each group card, there is an Export button. Clicking it downloads a text file with all the words from that group.
The file name is based on the group name: spaces are changed to dashes, so “Week 1” becomes [translate:Week-1.txt]. Each word is written on its own line in the file.
- Share your lists with other parents or students by email.
- Keep a backup of your groups outside the browser.
Deleting a group safely
Each group has a Delete button. When you click it, the app shows a message asking if you are sure you want to delete that group.
You cannot delete the very last group. The delete button will be disabled when only one group is left, so there is always at least one place to store your words.
✨ Why groups are helpful
- • Keep each school week in its own group so homework is easy to find.
- • Separate words by topic, such as “Animals”, “Weather”, or “Science”.
- • Use one group per child so everyone has their own spelling list.
